A base layer lives or dies on fabric. Because Apex Apparels knits and dyes in-house, base layer development starts with the yarn and the knit structure rather than with whatever fabric a mill happens to hold in stock. We build single jersey for lightweight next-to-skin layers, rib for close-fitting stretch and recovery, and interlock for smooth-faced heavier weights — each tuned to your target GSM, hand feel and shrinkage tolerance.
We manufacture merino base layers in pure wool and in engineered blends: merino with organic cotton for softness, with Tencel for drape, and with nylon or polyester for high tensile strength and abrasion resistance in hard-wearing outdoor programmes. Flatlock and coverstitch construction, seam placement away from pressure points and low-torque finishing keep long-wear comfort intact after repeated washing.
Every base layer programme runs on the same certified framework as the rest of the mill: Woolmark, RWS, OEKO-TEX®, GOTS and Sedex, with AQL 1.5 inspection before packing. Our cut and sew production is fully solar powered.

- Long-sleeve and short-sleeve crew and zip-neck tops, leggings and tights, and full base layer sets for adults and children. We build them in single jersey, rib and interlock, in pure merino and in merino blends with organic cotton, Tencel, nylon and polyester.
- Which yarn counts and fabric weights do you knit?
- We work across fine next-to-skin micron merino for lightweight base layers through to heavier mid-layer weights. Our fabric lab develops the knit to your target GSM, stretch, recovery and hand feel rather than pushing a fixed stock range.
- Are your base layer fabrics certified?
